We will analyze and rate stories primarily based on the following criteria to decide which one will pass to the next round. The following points are all criteria of equal value.
CORE CRITERIA
- Plot progression and handling (how each round establishes or adds to an existing plot)
- Character development (how a character changes as a person)
- Creative use of round prompts
- Clarity and craft (pertaining both to how easy it is to understand your story and quality of execution)
- Creative and in-character use of opponent characters (how well you portray your opponent’s character and use them to advance your own plot. if you have questions about your opponent’s character, we encourage you to contact them for further information)
ENTERTAINMENT POINTS
We also award additional ‘entertainment points’ for rounds, which act as bonuses in your favor:
- Effective use of an overarching plot/narrative for your story; such as including a narrative that connects each of your rounds and/or telling a wider narrative that involves the tournament as a whole or a larger-scale conflict
- Clear display of how your character's abilities and personality have impacted how they tackle the prompt/situations in your plot
- Good use of character interaction (your own characters or those belonging to others) to enhance your plot. Be mindful that these must be kept within the rules for spectator and side characters!
- Effective and engaging use of NPCs or other player characters (known as cameos) to enhance your plot or character development
The judges encourage competitors to keep these things in mind when writing their audition and rounds. Creating a unique character with a compelling personality and/or set of abilities during the audition stage will give you a higher chance of victory!
