Name: Kacey Conai
Alias/Nickname: N/A
Species: Madrai
Age: 16
Height/Weight:
5’ 5” (165 cm)
121 lbs. (55 kg)
Gender: None (They/Them)
Reason for entering: Kacey’s caretaker Kallisto has been missing for sometime, and their only lead is a grave marked “Janu” that she would visit from time to time before her departure. Kacey plans to revive this person to hopefully get some answers.
Memento: Sun Locket; A locket found on the grave marked “Janu”. The outside has a sun-like emblem on it. The inside is empty.
Strengths:
+Scythe Combat: Kacey has been trained by their caretaker in the basics of melee combat with a scythe. The scythe Kacey wields (named “Shooting Scythe”) is made of a light weight metal, except for the grip which is hard rubber.
- Bound Weapon: Kacey’s scythe was bound to them by their magic teacher. Kacey can summon and dismiss the weapon at will, appearing and disappearing in a flash of light. Kacey can only summon the weapon to their hands and if summoning it would intersect the scythe with a solid object, it won’t appear. If the scythe sustains damage that would change its overall shape, the enchantment will break and won’t be restored even if repaired.
Abilities:
>Spellcasting: Kacey’s been taught a small handful of magic spells for self defense/emergencies. Magic casters in their setting are limited by the energy given off by their souls, which can only be restored by rest or outside means. (magic potions/ingredients used to make those potions, of which Kacey has none) To fully regain their soul power, Kacey would need 4-5 hours of non-strenuous activity. Each spell’s cost varies slightly, though as a rough estimate Kacey can cast their spells 25-30 times before needing to restore their soul power. The spells Kacey knows are as follows;
>Nova Shine:
- A light element projectile that resembles a star or sparkle a little larger than Kacey’s fist.
- It has similar properties to light (not light speed, though it is fast), in that it can bounce off reflective surfaces, the cleaner the reflection the better, a mirror or still body of water for example is ideal.
- Being hit causes a sensation similar to mild 2nd degree burns on a direct hit (only 1st degree if it grazes)
- Leaves behind faintly glowing wounds that are sensitive to the touch but otherwise behave like regular burns.
- The max range before the projectile fizzles out is about 30 feet (9 meters)
- Can be held in Kacey’s hand providing a bright radius of light of about 20 feet (6 meters), if reabsorbed without leaving Kacey’s hand, this does not consume soul power.
>Dark Plasma:
- A darkness element projectile that resembles an amorphous gas. It’s slower than Nova Shine, a little weaker, and has enough physical presence to be redirected by a sizable gust of wind.
- Completely ignores magic shields
- Potentially inflicts “dark rot”, a short lived condition that causes magic energy to slowly leak out, potentially inhibiting the ability to cast spells if inflicted repeatedly.
- Damages non-magic users as well, but dark rot in them is at worst a mild discomfort (very small stomach ache/headache etc.)
- Max range before it fades is about 20 feet (6 meters)
>Healing Pulse:
- A basic healing spell that can only really treat first aid tier injuries. The spell is ineffective on broken/dislocated bones/anything that would require surgery, but could help ease the pain and speed along the natural healing process of such.
- Even though it can heal cuts, bruises, burns etc., if they’re too large/numerous, it could take multiple castings to heal them.
- Kacey can cast this spell on themselves or others at a distance of 10 feet. (3 meters)
- It has no effect on plants.
Weaknesses:
-Reckless Abandon: Kacey is extremely impulsive, they almost always leap before they look, regardless of circumstance. They’re also easily goaded into action, while they aren’t bloodthirsty, it’s very easy to get them into a fight or throw an attack, especially if they/their friends are being mistreated.
-Getting Dizzy: Kacey can be made dizzy more easily than the average person. Fast enough movements around their immediate area can make it difficult to concentrate. Spinning Kacey themselves a couple times will completely disorient them.
-Sensitive Ears: The Madrai peoples’ ears are an odd case in that they don’t have much greater hearing distance than average, yet they’re still more susceptible to high pitched and/or loud noises than other species. This can temporarily damage their hearing in addition to being quite painful.
-Soul Beacon: Kacey’s soul, unbeknownst to them, seems to somehow be different from others’. Back home this has caused Kacey to attract the aggression of creatures that normally don’t attack madrai, and the corrupted flora/fauna of the Endgrove seems to be similarly hostile toward this attribute. The stronger the corruptions’ hold on any given creature, the more hostile they’ll be toward Kacey, potentially prioritizing them over others, in addition to always being hyper aware of their position even from a distance and/or out of view.
Personality: Generally they’re a cheerful and spunky adolescent, though they have a scrappy aggressive streak if push comes to shove. They were raised not to take mistreatment from anyone, young or old. While Kacey’s confidence isn’t completely unfounded, they have a certain youthful cockiness and impulsiveness that’s more often trouble than beneficial. They also don’t do well when left with their own thoughts for an extended period of time and will seek someone, anyone to fill the dead air. For that reason, Kacey will try to make even casual connections with just about anyone, provided they aren’t terrible or dismissive, but even if they are, Kacey will just move onto the next potential acquaintance without missing much of a beat. Overall, Kacey is an amicable and outgoing youth willing to tackle any challenge or obstacle thrown at them, whether or not they’re actually prepared for it.
History: In the Aster Woods, home of the madrai, Kacey as a baby was adopted under vague circumstances by Kallisto Conai. Kal had never shown interest in starting a family or having kids, but still took Kacey in, and the two became very close. Kacey spent most of their days coasting through school on a B minus average, reading comics, playing games, sparring with friends and even being taught the basics of magic under Kallisto and the resident wizard. One day, Kallisto after having seemed pensive and contemplative within the last few months, told Kacey that she’d be leaving home for a while. She wouldn’t say why but she promised to return. Kacey was concerned but trusted her to keep her word. They’ve been living on their own for a little over two months, and with each passing day they grow more worried and restless.
Likes: Meeting new people, adventure, the science fantasy genre, comics, video games, competitive activities, light hearted mischief, banter
Dislikes: Waking up early, strict rules, cryptic/non-straight answers, being looked down upon, being alone
Other:
-Kacey has brought some non-combat items with them into the Endgrove. These include; junk food, comics, and a handful of pips (small inert blue seeds the madrai use as currency). These aren’t essential to depict and can be ignored entirely.
-Kacey and Lexia are part of an RPG Maker Project I’ve been trying to make.
